Vancouver Screen Scene: Zoo returns, ReBoot gets rebooted, and more

YTV’s original computer-animated series ReBoot is getting rebooted.

Season’s greetings to all, from Hollywood North!

It’s the quiet time of the year here in Hollywood North, as productions have either wrapped up, gone a holiday season break, or are preparing to launch in the new year.

But on that last note, there are two upcoming productions heading this way to keep tabs on. (Is there an app for that?)

The TV drama series Zoo will start shooting Season 3 on January 19 and continue until June 15.

On August 10, CBS announced it would renew the series for a third season.

Zoo is a thriller, based on the best-selling novel by James Patterson, about an unusual wave of vicious animal attacks against humans all around the world that appear to be coordinated.

James Wolk

American zoologist Jackson Oz (played by James Wolk) faces a race against time to figure out what is causing all of this.

The cast includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Josh Salatin, and Alyssa Diaz.

Grace Dzienny

Gracie Dzienny, who guest-starred in the Season 2 finale, will become a series regular in the third season. Dzienny plays Clementine, the daughter of the late Mitch (Billy Burke).

A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet but the show will presumably air in the summer of 2017.

ReBoot

Meanwhile, are there any fans out there of ReBoot?

The groundbreaking CG–animated series ReBoot is getting a reboot, not too long after its 20th anniversary.

The half-hour TV series ReBoot: The Guardian Code will start shooting 26 episodes on February 20, continuing until March 20.

The new series will be a combination of live-action and CG–animation.

When the original Canadian-made series launched in 1994 on YVT, it was one of the first to be completely animated with computer technology.

ReBoot

The new adventure-comedy series will update the show for new audiences. The story follows four teenagers who become the next generation of Guardians who have to defend the world in cyberspace from viruses.

With the help of the original Cyberbeings Dot, Bob, and Enzo, they will work to stop the Sourcerer, a ruthless hacker. Also, the villainous Megabyte and his henchmen Hack and Slash are back from the original series.

Just as technology has significantly advanced since the original series, the world of Mainframe will expand proportionately to include contemporary technology such as drones, clouds, mobile devices, and online gaming.

Neither the cast nor a premiere date have been announced yet.

Once Upon a Time

In the meantime, a number of TV series that went on a break for the holiday season will be heading back into production next week.

TV series back on set on January 3 include Arrow (Season 5), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2), Lucifer (Season 2), Once Upon a Time (Season 6), Riverdale (Season 1), Supergirl (Season 2), Supernatural (Season 12), The Flash (Season 3), and Timeless (Season 1).

Rose McIver

iZombie, starring Rose McIver, will also be back on January 3 to shoot Season 3 but it wraps up only few days later on January 9.

Also ending their stints after returning on January 3 are the TV series The 100 (Season 4), concluding on January 16; Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (Season 4), ending on January 23; and Bates Motel (Season 5), finishing up on January 24.

Casey Affleck

As we previously mentioned, critically acclaimed star Casey Affleck will be coming to town to direct and act in the feature film Light of My Life. It’ll be in production from January 23 to March 8.

The Mountain Between Us, starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba, is also on hiatus and will be back in production on January 3. It’ll continue its shoot until February 24.

Well, that wraps up this year in productions. Of course, stay tuned because a new year means lots of new projects will be coming our way, bringing with them many more stars to spot on the streets of Vancouver.

And on that note, best wishes to all for 2017!
